For Katie’s birthday and just ‘cuz…

We went to our town’s Baby Animal Days.

It was run by our local 4-H and they were awesome. For $25 per family, we could see a handful of cows, sheep, goats, pigs, geese, ducklings, chicks, 1 mini horse, bunnies, and turkeys. The kids loved it.

My youngest daughter is rather obsessed with cows.

For her birthday today, she received a cow bank from my parents, cow Webkinz, a Sandra Boynton cow CD and book, and a little cow vacuum to suck up table crumbs. And she already has quite a cow collection. So seeing these cute little guys made her day.

Baby Cows

Unfortunately, they were all huddled together in fear and we didn’t get to pet them, but they sure were cute!

Fun pics! The kids made animals sounds for the first one and buzzed like bees for the flower pic. Funny!

Alex loved petting the sheep…until the sheep turned around to face him and check him out and he stumbled back so fast it was hilarious!

Petting Sheep

Then we found The Tent. Baby chicks and ducklings and bunnies! That you could hold and pet! Hurry!

Liz loved on a muddy duckling for about a second. It was wet! ew! But we wanted to take one home and name it Henry, like in The Little Duck.

Duckling

Baby chicks were much cleaner and softer. Cuteness!

Tori really loved the chicks.

Alex LOVED the bunny.

There were sweet gray bunnies with their mama.

We love baby animals!

Our Spring Homeschool Work

Read alouds:

We’re finishing Beatrix Potter in another couple days!

Christian Liberty Nature Reader 1 about bees

Lesson 2 in Apologia Zoology 3. They LOVE their junior notebooks!

First Language Lessons (they’re almost bored with this!) We do a couple lessons every day.

The girls continue to love the word family work I print from here. They are so tickled by the pictures that go with the words.

I began writing a word in 3 languages on our new calendar each week.

Our foreign language word: “spring”…in German – die Fruhling, in French – la printemps, in Spanish – la primavera. They love this part of the calendar time every day. Now, they ask me what other words are, at random. It makes me wrack my brain!

She was so excited that she got the right answer during our math lesson. I love it. I’m so glad I had the camera right beside me.

Bubba wanted the spring words cards.

Of course, toddler rules: everything is MINE.

I love how sweet and patient he was being.

I also introduced the girls to the card game Uno. We all played it and loved it.

Sister 2 helped Dad plant my eggplant seeds while I took her sisters to track practice. She’s really excited about the garden and ready to get started. We still have to till and can probably begin planting in May. We’ve been collecting milk and juice jugs for garden use. We have crafts like watering cans and will place some around the tomatoes.

Sister 1 is a fast runner and beats all the other girls and most of the boys at track practice. I can’t wait to see her at her first meet. She wants to run with me after practice too! I love it. Grandpa is so proud.

Lots of outside time this week as the weather has been nicer. It’s still in the 50’s, but since we’re so elevated, we need hats and sunscreen.

Dumb Mama got super sunburned. Thank God the kiddos didn’t!

We played in the sand with excavation vehicles! Yay!
Playing Outside

We like swinging!

Mom’s favorite: “Hark! What is that over yonder?”
Hark! What Is That
“It is Big Sister Tori, playing with chalk. I shall join her.”

Alex really enjoyed putting the coins in his Piggy Bank. He figured out how to open it and loved putting them in the slot and watching them fall.

Same concept, different toy. I love this sideways look. I think he was concerned about the music and laughing that the mailbox does. He likes the piggy bank better.
Mailbox Play

And lots of time spent with his baby gears toy and Lego Duplo and our plastic animals bin (mostly Toobs).

He really likes the jellyfish.

Our review of this past week…

We had fun at the Ogden Nature Center.

Here is my monkey who climbed a rock wall in about 2.5 seconds.

Not to be outdone, sister quickly followed suit.

Monkey Girl Rock Climbing

Our neighborhood had a really cool Easter egg hunt. It was like trick or treating. Everyone put plastic eggs or treats on their front lawn and the kids went around a-hunting.

Loved it! Yes, my eldest has bunny ears on…

Our Christian Passover meal…with Bible reading.

Our butterfly release…We got to say bye to our butterflies!

Love the delight in her expression here!

It’s March already and we’re so ready for spring!

Almost all the snow is melted and it’s been gorgeous the past few days!

We love our sensory bins. Here’s our March one with green and yellow lentils and shamrock stickers with gold and green glitter puffs. I am excited that I found this mini Montessori wooden rainbow. We all love it.

Tori and Katie practice their writing. We did K for kites this week. I get most of our preschool curriculum from Confessions of a Homeschooler and 1+1+1=1. I also use the writing pages from Homegrown Hearts. I’m still waiting for those March winds to try to fly the kites I bought…

Victoria turned 5 years old on Thursday. She got a Hello Kitty bowling ball from my parents and, of course, we had to go test it out. Love her stance, eh? I think she could go pro!

For her birthday dinner, she requested Texas Roadhouse. Here she is in the birthday saddle. Yeehaw!
