So, it’s official.
We’re moving to Ohio this summer.
We threw out our printables, but I still like them occasionally, like loooong plane and car rides.
I found some fun Ohio state notebooking pages to learn about our new home. We’ve lived in Germany for three glorious years, so it will probably be a bit of a culture shock going back to the States!
We haven’t gone to church in a while, so we’re excited to find a new church home. Thank you for praying for us!
Read about the PCS grief process for our military family.
We have so many fun things planned for our new home!
5 things we’ve missed about the United States:
- Chick-Fil-A (and it’s just as good as we remember!)
- Air conditioning (but it’s really cold to us now!)
- Potatoes (the ones in mainland Europe are sweeter.)
- Window Screens (yay for keeping out bugs!)
- Pay at the pump gasoline!
5 things we’ve noticed now that we’re back in our passport country:
- American flags. Everywhere. It’s like we don’t want to forget where we are.
- The roads are dirty, full of pot holes, and not clearly marked. Drivers aren’t as courteous or knowledgeable. We miss the Autobahn!
- It’s very loud and bright, everywhere, all the time. So many ads and commercials.
- So many mediocre things seem so expensive.
- There are few good beers here. What’s with all the IPA and fruity beer?
The Ohio flag is pretty cool:
Ohio’s state flag was adopted in 1902. The Ohio burgee, as the swallowtail design is properly called, was designed by John Eisemann. The large blue triangle represents Ohio’s hills and valleys, and the stripes represent roads and waterways.

We’re settling in to Ohio really well. It’s so pretty here! Now, we just need to go pick up our minivan from the port and I’ll be all set.

Ohio is a great place to live and has been my home for most of my life! I am not sure what part will be your destination, but the state varies in terrain and weather a bit depending on your location in conjunction to Lake Erie. Ohio birthed eight presidents so their home cities make great places to visit. Canton boasts the McKinley Monument, The First Ladies Museum, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. There was a very active Indian culture here and ancient tribes built mounds that can be visited. The agriculture in Ohio varies and now includes small wineries in all parts of the state. The areas in NE around Geneva are the most well-known and densely populated. There would be more to tell, but I hope you will explore and discover how many neat things there are here.
Thanks for the trivia! We’re near Dayton.
I’ve never been to Ohio – but I love your links! I’m teaching US states this year, so this was a great thing! Welcome back to America and it’s blessings and struggles!
(the places I traveled in Europe involved small roads and one lanes and curves, so I thought the roads back home were huge!). Funny, our different views.
the roads and parking lots are huge in the States!
Welcome home. Your kids must learn lots from your creativity. Blessings to you.
Enjoy your new home and home church! Welcome back! My husband prefers IPA but he’s from Iowa, now CA where craft breweries are popping up all over town.
Welcome back to the USA! It’s interesting to hear what you missed and now what you miss from Europe!
Hi lifelong Buckeye here. I’ve lived or visited every corner of Ohio and then some. Fun flag fact: Officially the Ohio flag is a pennant and the only state in the union that uses a pennant as its state flag.
Ohio has many state parks with a variety of activities year round. We also have a bunch of interesting museums (some of them are quirky but my family really likes quirky) and 2 summer renaissance festivals (we’re history buffs.) If you are missing a little bit of Germany, most Ohio Amish speak German. We always visit Amish Country when our German friends visit.
If there is anything I can help you with shoot me an email.
fun tips! Thanks!
I’m a born and raise Ohioan! Welcome to the Buckeye State! What part of the state are you calling home?
We’re near Dayton. Thanks!
Welcome back to the states, Jennifer. How beautiful Germany must have been. I grew up in Ohio. There’s much to discover – and quite the variety. Oh, and FYI there’s a German Village in Columbus. Not sure how it’ll compare, but… After all the the culture shock wears off, may good memories begin to build in beautiful, new ways. Visiting via #chasingcommunity.
Thanks for the tip and encouragement!
I hope your move goes smoothly! You won’t be tooooo far from us (as compared to some!) I think this is cool how you shared.
Your #QuietlyThrough neighbor today
Not sure where you are going in Ohio, but we have a great metroparks system in the northeast part of the state. There is a national park in Peninsula (Cuyahoga Valley Rec) and the Air Force Museum in Dayton is free, but would be worth the visit even if it wasn’t.) Also, not sure what your preconceived notion of Cleveland is, but it has become a really cool, foodie-friendly, walkable city with great museums.
Enjoy!
We’re near Dayton and those are on our list now!
I don’t know very much about Ohio, other than that they have really clean rest stops. I hope you enjoy your new home.
Welcome to my home state, the Buckeye state! You will LOVE it here! Thanks for providing the Ohio notebooking pages. I’ve pinned this article on my Cleveland board.
Welcome back to the US! We’re slowing adjusting to Texas after 13 years of living in Southeast Asia so I understand some of what you’re going through! Thanks so much for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday on Mommynificent.com!
Tina
Now, we’d love to see Asia! It’s on our list!
