I chose some of our favorite Halloween books, approved by my young son as not scary, just spooky enough for the season. Many are sing-songy rhyming fun books. Most are just cute or silly.
The chapter books at the end of the list are family read-alouds or approved by my older girls.
Some of our favorites are multicultural because we love learning how others celebrate holidays around the world.
Also, check out my book lists about pumpkins and fall and Thanksgiving.

I can’t recall the name, but my youngest son LOVED a book about a haunted garden and a ghost who came to the window of a young boy and his grandmother saying,
“Pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin pie, I must have some before I die.
It must be round and brown as toast or I’ll haunt this earth, a hungry ghost!”
And the fact that he is now 16 makes me wonder what valuable storage space that little poem is occupying in my brain that could be used to keep track of where my car keys are.

We’re slowly collecting more and more seasonal books for our home library collection. It’s good to own them because you can never find them in the library during the season. Lol! We really enjoyed Where’s my Mummy and Dem Bones. Thanks for sharing your list with us at #LiveLifeWell.

Wow, thanks so much for including “Flashlight Night,” Jennifer! I’m so glad you & your son liked the book…and what an honor to be on a list with folks like Dr. Seuss (my favorite story of his!), Janell Cannon, Neil Gaiman, Charles Schultz, the Berenstains, and so many other amazingly talented folks. Happy Halloween!
